Frequently Asked Questions

 What is SnooCODE?

SnooCODE is a mobile app that solves the problem of lack of addresses in developing countries like Liberia. It provides a unique SnooCODE for every location, which serves as a working address. It is free for all private non commercial use.

How does SnooCODE work?

The SnooCODE app generates a unique alphanumeric code that can be used as an address for a particular location or home.

SnooCODE also provides options to plot routes to destinations, save a SnooCODE into an address book, share a SnooCODE address with others.

How secure is the code generated?

Security is a priority for SnooCODE. A SnooCODE is completely private. You can share it with people you trust (e.g. family members) or require a service from e.g. food delivery services.

How does my address look like?

A SnooCODE is a private and unique 5-, 6- or 7-digit alphanumeric code–like Monrovia 499-KM8 – which allows quick and accurate address/location saving, sharing and navigation.

How can I get the SnooCODE app?

Download and install the SnooCODE application onto your Android device from the Google Play Store by clicking here, or onto your iOS device from the App Store by clicking here.

How do I get my unique address?

After downloading the SnooCODE app, do the following:

  1. Stand in front of your house or location in question

  2. Open the application and press the “generate code” button

  3. A 5-, 6-, or 7-digital alphanumeric code will be generated.

This is your SnooCODE. Save it, write it down or share it with other people that you trust.

What can I use SnooCODE addresses for?

Among other things, you can use SnooCODE addresses:

  • To access eCommerce and various types of delivery services

  • To access public health and emergency response services like ambulances during medical emergencies

  • To open bank accounts and access financial services like bank loans

How different is SnooCODE from the traditional addressing system?

Every location has a unique SnooCODE which is accurate and easy to memorise. A user only needs to recognize the letters A to Z and the numbers 2 to 9. This means even people with low literacy levels can use it.

Where does SnooCODE work?

SnooCODE currently works everywhere in Liberia.

Who needs SnooCODE?

EVERYONE. Anyone who needs to be found, have a service delivered and record locations.

How do I generate a code for my house or location?

1. Download and install the SnooCODE application

2. Stand in front of your house or location in question

3. Open the application and press the generate code button

4. A six alphanumeric code will be generated.

This is your SnooCODE. Save it, write it down or share it with other people.

What happens when I make a mistake while entering a code?

SnooCODE has been designed with features to identify and where appropriate, suggest corrections to mistakes made while entering a code.

How does SnooCODE compare to Google maps and other mapping systems?

Google maps is a mapping system, and SnooCODE is an addressing system. Google maps and other mapping systems show you a map of the whole area and SnooCODE shows you your location on the map

  • To share your address, you only need to remember your 5-, 6-or 7-digit alphanumeric code.

  • In an emergency, you don’t need a smartphone to be able to share your address, you can mention your SnooCODE on the phone to an emergency response team, and they will use the SnooCODE app to find you.

  • Because the code is short, you can write it and easily use it in everyday application e.g., filling a bank form, requesting a delivery service. You may probably not remember the longitude and latitude of your address that easily.

Does SnooCODE require everyone in a household to own a smartphone?

No. Once a member of the household generates a code, he or she can then share it with the other members of the same household.

Why can’t I just send my location on WhatsApp?

Of course you can, if you have internet access, mobile phone credit, a smartphone with GPS and connectivity in a particular area. You will also need to have a prior relationship with the person. This is difficult if you are sending your location to the police or the ambulance service on an emergency call. With SnooCODE, you can provide your address on a simple phone call for faster response. The emergency services can also use it on a two-way radio device between emergency personnel especially when there is no connectivity.
